Hunting in Rastatt

Reconciling forest, game and agriculture: This is the ambitious goal of the urban forest. For the preservation of the forest, the natural regeneration of trees, i.e. the natural reproduction of plants, plays an important role.

But roe deer and co. eat leaves and buds, thus disturbing the trees as they grow. At the same time, wild boars and other wild animals cause enormous damage to agricultural land.

To protect agriculture and forest regeneration from game damage and to regulate the wildlife population, certain game species must be hunted. These include deer, wild boar and foxes.

Over 4000 hectares hunting ground

In Rastatt, hunting is currently permitted on an area of over 4,000 hectares. The eleven hunting grounds in Rastatt are mainly leased to hunters.

In addition, the municipal forestry department looks after two hunting grounds: south of Fährstraße in Plittersdorf and the so-called Ötigheim Forest.

Every six years, the hunting grounds are leased out anew. The allocation is the responsibility of the municipal council of the city of Rastatt and the respective local councils. After approval by the committees, the hunting cooperative assembly decides on the leasing.
