The beginnings of the music school and its significance to this day
On October 1, 1973, the municipal council, led by the then Lord Mayor Dr. Richard Kunze, unanimously decided to establish a youth music school under municipal sponsorship. Classes started at the beginning of 1974 with 180 pupils. By May 1974, there were already 450 pupils. At that time, lessons still took place in the former pavilion and music hall of the Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium and the hall of the Protestant town church.
Today, 28 qualified and dedicated teachers teach around 1,000 pupils in individual, pair, group and class lessons. The music school's wide range of courses is aimed at children, young people and adults. From the violin to the electric guitar to the oriental bağlama, almost every traditional and popular instrument is taught at the Rastatt Municipal Music School. This also includes vocal training from children's choirs to solo singing.
To this day, the Rastatt Music School is an integral and central part of the municipal educational and cultural offerings of the city of Rastatt and a cooperation partner of numerous daycare centers, elementary school and secondary schools.
