175 years ago, Rastatt was one of the main sites of the Baden Revolution. To mark the occasion, the Historical Library at Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium is holding a special exhibition entitled "With top hats and firearms... The Rastatt Lyceum and the Baden Revolution". The exhibition examines the role of the Lyceum in the revolution and its suppression in July 1849, as well as the emerging dichotomy of those involved between approval and rejection. The valuable collections of the Historical Library and their "survival" during the bombardment of the city between May and July 1849 form a further focus - as does the subsequent retreat into "bourgeoisness" after the end of the revolutionary movement.
The special exhibition can be seen in the Historical Library until January 12, 2025; it is open on Sundays and on selected public holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as during public guided tours and by appointment
Almost 50 guests attended the opening of the exhibition on June 6 in the library hall of the Historical Library.
