The Rastatt city forest is not only a place of recreation, habitat for many animals and plants, it also provides the important raw material firewood.
As soon as autumn begins, timber harvesting starts in Rastatt. Every year from October 1 to 31, citizens can register for the purchase of firewood and log lots at the city administration or the respective local administrations.
In principle, all citizens can also expect to receive the firewood they have ordered for the winter of 2022 - albeit with delays.
However, due to the energy crisis, the prices for firewood had to be adjusted to the market in Rastatt as well.
Registration for firewood and beating room lots
Residents of Rastatt who wish to purchase felled timber, firewood in long form, or dying wood can register digitally or by telephone from October 1 to 31 at the city administration and at their respective local administrations. Residents of the core city are asked to contact the Forestry Customer Area of the City of Rastatt directly by e-mail.

Information for new customers
Anyone wishing to purchase firewood for the first time from the Forestry Commission or local offices must present proof of an appropriate burning site (current certificate from the responsible district chimney sweep).
In addition, firewood from the Rastatt municipal forest is only available to citizens with their primary residence in Rastatt or in one of the suburbs.
In addition, a certificate of attendance at a chainsaw training course is required.
Receipt of the application is decisive
The allocation of harvesting area lots is based on the receipt of applications. The harvesting area lots are only issued if the weather conditions allow for processing and removal from the forest without damage to the soil.
In any case, in order to process the logging area and transport the firewood, an agricultural tractor with a suitable trailer is required. The delivery of firewood in long form takes place depending on the status of work in the urban forest and may last until spring.
What else needs to be considered?
- As a matter of principle, all forest owners offer only freshly cut firewood for sale. Wood purchased in the current winter must be air-dried for at least two years before it can be used for heating.
- In order to prevent accidents, the Forestry Commission asks that the following be observed: full body protective equipment must be worn during all chainsaw work. In addition, when operating a chainsaw in the urban forest, only biodegradable chain lubricant from the specialized trade may be used.
Wood offer at a glance
(as of September 2022)
Wood | Price |
---|---|
Long firewood hardwood (ash, maple, oak, hornbeam...) | 77 Euro/metre |
Long firewood softwood (poplar, alder, willow, linden...) | 54 Euro/metre |
Sterholz hardwood (ash, maple, oak, hornbeam...) | 91 Euro/ster |
Sterholz Softwood (poplar, alder, willow, lime...) | 69 Euro/ster |
Beating room lots (approx. 6 stere per beating room lot) | 84 Euro/Lot |
Quantity limitation is introduced
From the winter of 2023/2024, a quantity limit per household will be introduced. In consultation with the surrounding municipalities, this will be five steres per household for long firewood from hardwood. There will be no quantity limit for softwood.
The basis for invoicing is always the price per solid cubic meter. In order to be able to cover the volume demand for long firewood (hardwood and softwood), customers must be prepared for the fact that logs with larger diameters will also come up for sale.
