175 years of the Baden Revolution

Rastatt was an important site of the Baden Revolution of 1848/49, where the soldiers fraternized with the rebellious citizens on May 9, 1849. Even though the Baden Revolution failed shortly afterwards with the storming of the fortress in Rastatt, the work of the revolutionaries, their commitment to freedom and justice, laid the foundations for our democracy today. In this anniversary year, Rastatt is celebrating the democratic legacy of the revolutionaries of that time with a wide range of events - not as a historical retrospective, but as a highly topical issue.
