The Rastatt train station has been undergoing modernization and barrier-free expansion since April 2021. In addition to the city of Rastatt, the inclusion expert group was also involved in the planning. Deutsche Bahn AG is investing 15.8 million euros in the project. The state of Baden-Württemberg is contributing 2.8 million euros and the city of Rastatt 1.4 million euros to the total costs of 20 million euros.
All platforms have already been raised so that passengers can now board and alight in comfort. Passenger information, lighting, weather protection systems and seating are also up to date. A tactile guidance system also makes it easier for blind and partially sighted people to find their way around. A new, weatherproof pedestrian walkway with stairs and elevators leading to all four platforms has been built. In addition, the existing station underpass is to be upgraded in line with the times.
What else is planned?
The city of Rastatt is building two more elevators at its own expense by the end of 2023 at the latest - directly in front of the station building and on Rauentaler Straße. This will provide a barrier-free connection to the station underpass. The construction costs are expected to be around 2.7 million euros. In addition, the city will install a crosswalk with traffic light control at the level of the station parking lot (photo) so that travelers can cross Bahnhofstrasse safely.
