Heat, drought, heavy rain, floods: climate change is also making itself felt in Rastatt. Excessively hot summers and extreme drought are causing problems for people and nature. And when it does rain, it is often short and heavy. As a result, the soil can barely absorb the rainfall. The sewage system is also sometimes overwhelmed. The city of Rastatt is responding to this development with a climate adaptation concept (PDF) (6.5 MB).
Alongside the climate protection concept, the climate adaptation concept forms the second pillar of Rastatt's climate protection management. Its development is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector as part of the KLIMOPASS funding program.
A climate analysis (PDF) (8.2 MB) from 2017 provides information and data for the climate adaptation concept. In the analysis, the urban area was divided into clusters. For example, the respective development and distribution of temperature or fresh air flows were recorded and evaluated. The aim is to derive protection and development measures to improve the climate in the city from this and more recent data. For example, night-time cold and wind currents are to be used optimally to ventilate the urban area.
Further information on climate adaptation at state level can be found on the Local Climate Adaptation website or on the website of the state government's Ministry of the Environment.
