A gem of nature is hidden just a few minutes' walk from the city center: the Rastatt eco-station. The natural garden area of around 2,000 square meters on the Westring near the gas boilers is a species-rich habitat for numerous plants and animals. At the same time, as an extracurricular place of learning, the eco-station offers Rastatt nurseries, kindergartens and schools a wide range of opportunities for experience- and practice-oriented environmental education. Whether wild bee nesting aid, natural pond or organically cultivated garden plots - visitors can experience nature up close at the eco-station.
founded in 1992 in cooperation with Rastatt schools, the "Ökostation" project was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Environmental Prize in 1995. Since then, the eco-station has been an integral part of the town's environmental education work. Well over 800 children and young people visit the Ökostation Rastatt every year.
The eco-station is open for educational nature events from spring to late fall. In spring and summer in particular, nature experience days are held for third school classes. In addition, the station offers various nature education programs on the living world, including the fascinating world of water and the diversity of native flowering meadows. The eco-station is also the venue for project and action days as well as events, for example as part of the "Rendezvous with Nature (PDF) (1.8 MB)" program.
The eco-station is supervised by the Ecology and Greenery customer service department and by the two employees of the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ), who rotate every year. The eco-station is open to all municipal kindergartens and schools on request. In addition, school classes and groups from outside the city as well as those interested in environmental education can also visit the Rastatt eco-station by prior arrangement. Interested parties can send an e-mail to foej@rastatt.de by e-mail.
