As an extracurricular educational partner, the city library supports day-care centers, schools and other educational institutions with a wide range of services to develop media, language and research skills, inspire a love of reading and motivate people to read.
Discover the library - age-appropriate guided tours
The city library team offers various guided tours for children and young people. The children not only get to know the library, but also learn how to find books and other media quickly and use them correctly. The tours are free of charge and take place outside opening hours (Wednesday or Friday mornings).
It is also possible to borrow media on these days. You must bring your library card with you. If you do not yet have one, you should apply for one about a week in advance.
Employees of educational institutions can also apply for a free library card for official use. Apply for a library card
Fun and games with books. For preschoolers and 1st/2nd grade
The children get to know different media in a playful way: They look for media treasures, take a "train ride" through the children's library and listen to an exciting story. Of course, there is also time for independent exploration.
Aim: To awaken a desire for books and thereby promote reading motivation.
Library is fun. For 3rd/4th grade
Why are the books in the library arranged alphabetically in some sections, but thematically in others? During this guided tour, the children delve deeper into the secrets of a library: In a rally, they solve questions about the library and its media in groups.
Aim: The library should be experienced as an open and happy place to read.
Book casting - A desire to read. From 5th grade
In the interactive book casting, young people evaluate book candidates from different genres based on various criteria, just like in a casting show. In this way, they get to know a wide range of new publications. As classes often have different levels of prior knowledge about the library, its services are presented in detail (Internet, word processing, printing, scanning, study rooms).
Objective: To maintain and promote pupils' interest in reading.
With the tablet through the library. From 6th grade
The focus is on learning search strategies with the help of the online catalog and other sources of information. The knowledge acquired is then tested during a rally through the library using the "Actionbound" app. A variety of tasks and puzzles encourage active participation, explain independent media research and train the use of digital media.
Goal: Media and library skills
