The number of households in Rastatt will continue to grow, according to a forecast by the Baden-Württemberg Statistical Office and a housing analysis from 2021. According to this, Rastatt's population is expected to increase by 3.4 percent by 2035.
One of the reasons for this is the number of jobs, which has increased continuously in recent years. However, the growth in employment in the city and region has also resulted in an increasing demand for housing in Rastatt. The city has responded to this in recent years by designating numerous new development areas.
In the coming years, too, the city intends to continuously expand and enable residential construction. The demand is to be met, among other things, by filling vacant lots and through compatible redensification, for example by using vacant lots in existing development or existing buildings.
Goals of residential development
The city of Rastatt has set some strategic goals for how housing should develop in the coming years. Housing should be:
- affordable - both in the core city and in Rastatt's localities,
- barrier-free and suitable for seniors,
- attractive for families,
- attractive for households with medium and higher incomes
The city administration wants to play an active role in this process and independently increase the housing stock in the coming years, among other things as part of the Rastatt model. The housing construction process will be accompanied by the Housing Advisory Council, which was founded in 2021 and consists of employees of the city administration and representatives of the municipal council and meets twice a year.
