The town twinning between Rastatt and New Britain in the USA has existed since 1984. The cornerstone of this town twinning was a stamp with the likeness of Carl Schurz, which was discovered by Peter Kilduff from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. Carl Schurz was a leading revolutionary in the freedom movements of 1848. After his arrest, he managed to escape from Rastatt to the USA. He was Minister of the Interior there from 1877 to 1881.
New Britain, with a population of around 70,000, is located in the state of Connecticut on the east coast of America, halfway between New York and Boston. Connecticut is known for its rich oak forests and productive agricultural land. The Indian summer, which begins at the end of September, is particularly worth seeing.
