Long Night of Democracy
"What holds our society together - in Rastatt, in Germany and in Europe?". With this question, the town of Rastatt is taking part in the first "Long Night of Democracy" in Baden-Württemberg on October 2. More than 20 towns and municipalities across the state are taking part. Visitors to Rastatt can look forward to a varied program in the Rossi House from 5 pm to 10 pm. The City Museum and the Fruchthalle Gallery are also taking part in the "Long Night of Democracy". One night before the Day of German Unity, democracy will be philosophized, discussed, argued and slammed in a wide variety of formats. Music and culture will be enjoyed and there will be plenty of laughter and celebration. True to the motto "When democracy is fun, so-called party participation arises"
The idea behind the Long Night of Democracy is to bring people from different social groups together and offer them a platform to discuss democratic values, civil rights and current political issues. The aim is also to appeal to young people and those who have previously had little to do with political processes.

Patriotism and democracy in Europe - a contradiction?
Many Germans have a problem with patriotism, which they equate with nationalism and then immediately with National Socialism. This short lecture is intended to sharpen people's awareness of the terms and help them realize that it is possible to be patriotic, democratic and well European at the same time. Followed by a discussion.

Photos from the exhibition "Encounters"
The photomontages show pictures of Rastatt from the 1930s and 40s, combined with today's color photographs. Photographer Oliver Hurst shows pictures from an exhibition that was shown at the Stadtmuseum in 2008. What had no direct political reference at the time seems more relevant than ever today. The pictures actively invite you to write your own thoughts on the passpartout.
Exhibition "For Freedom - Rastatt and the 1848/49 Revolution
At the time, the revolution failed in its aims. But it laid the foundations for the democracy movement in Germany. The exhibition also builds a bridge to the present day by allowing different people and groups from Rastatt, the region and the world to have their say. This makes it clear how relevant the historical events and developments of 1848/49 still are today. Open with free admission from 5 to 10 pm.
