in 2024, Rastatt will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Baden Revolution in 1849. With the exhibition "Rastatt 1849 - und Du?!", the Rastatt City Museum shows how relevant the topics from back then still are today and how young people see them. From December 14, 2023 to January 28, 2024, the photo exhibition with pictures by pupils from Rastatt's Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium (LWG) can be visited.
Photo challenge encourages historical debate
In cooperation with the LWG, the city museum had developed a photo challenge for pupils from the eighth grade upwards. As part of their history lessons, the young people actively engaged with the Baden Revolution of 1848/49 and its political legacy. This resulted in photographic works that focused on values such as freedom, resistance, co-determination and equality. The city museum is now presenting a selection of the photos in the special exhibition "Rastatt 1849 - and you?".
Past meets present: What occupies young people today?
The exhibition not only transports the historical theme of the Baden Revolution into the present day. Visitors also gain exciting insights into what is currently politically relevant for young people. In the spirit of democracy, visitors can also vote for their personal favorites in the exhibition. The pictures with the most votes will win another exhibition as "audience favorites", this time in the Rastatt City Library. This will be on display from February to March 2024.
Prizes are awarded for the best work
A jury has already selected the best works from the photo challenge for the exhibition in the city museum - divided into two age groups. The winners of the competition can look forward to prizes in recognition of their achievements, provided by the city's Schools, Culture and Sport Department.
