6. La fontaine de Saint Alexis

En 1723 et en 1728, des tremblements de terre ont détruit des parties de la ville de Rastatt – y compris des parties du château. C’est la raison pour laquelle en 1739 on a érigé un mémorial sous la forme d’une fontaine sur la place du marché en l’honneur de Saint Alexis d‘Edessa, le saint protecteur contre les tremblements de terre, la foudre et le mauvais temps. Grâce à son intercession, les habitants de Rastatt espéraient être protégés d’autres tremblements de terre.

Les enfants découvrent Rastatt:

Environ tous les 10 ans, la terre tremble à Rastatt. Les dernières fois où cela s’est produit, c’était en 2004 et en 2011. Au cours de la période baroque, il y a eu en 1723, et le 3 août 1728 à 15 h 30, d’importants tremblements de terre.

De peur, les gens courraient dans les rues de Rastatt. Nombreux étaient ceux qui craignaient de rester dans leur maison pendant la nuit. Il y avait une grande agitation dans la ville. On avait peur que d’autres secousses sismiques se produisent. Saint Alexis sur sa fontaine au centre de la ville devait à l’avenir préserver la ville des tremblements de terre. La population croyait pouvoir se protéger des risques de tremblements de terre grâce à des prières.

Un tremblement de terre est une vibration du sol. Celle-ci intervient lorsque les plaques tectoniques qui recouvrent la croûte terrestre se déplacent. Rastatt se situe dans ce que l’on appelle la faille du Rhin supérieur. A cet endroit, il y a particulièrement beaucoup de tensions dans la croûte terrestre, car différentes plaques tectoniques dans les Alpes frottent les unes sur les autres. Et cela a alors une influence jusqu’à Rastatt. Mais les souris ressentent même des plus petits tremblements de terre qui ne sont pas perceptibles par les humains.
